Bulgarian winter resorts getting ready for the start of winter season 2010/2011

click to expandBulgarian winter resorts are preparing for winter tourism season 2010/2011. Regional tourism associations predict that novelties will attract more tourists and the crisis will likely remain in the past.

Bulgaria’s Bansko resort invested 13 million euro in the ski area for winter season 2010/2011, Bansko ski area marketing manager Ivan Obreikov said. Two new ski lifts will be available. Nearly 90 percent of the ski tracks are going to be covered in artificial snow. Bansko has 230 artificial snow machines. The local tourism business union expects 10 percent increase in tourist numbers for the winter season.

Borovets ski resort maintains an investment program of 40 million euro, which started in 2006. Borovets plans to open winter season 2010 on December 18. During the two days of the official opening the price of ski passes will be 50 percent lower.

The mountain resorts of Chepelare and Pamporovo expect 20 percent visitor increase, Rhodopi Regional Tourist Association chairman Pantelei Memtsov said.

click to expandChepelare ski tracks have been prepared for the season, new marking signs are situated in the ski area. A total of 24 artificial snow machines will provide snow for the slopes. International Ski Federation ratified two of the runs for international ski competitions. Chepelare resort will offer packages that include lift passes.

Pamporovo will welcome tourists with slopes ready for the start of the season. The resort has new information boards and 200 m of new safety net. Artificial snow machines cover 14 km of the ski slope length.

Tourists will be able to buy lift cards from the new information center, which will be situated in Perelik hotel. Pamporovo visitors will buy ski passes via credit or debit cards through terminals.

Vitosha mountain near the Bulgarian capital of Sofia will open a new cross-country skiing run. The ski tracks are completely ready for the winter season.
